Tapada do Chaves, DOC Alentejo – Portalegre, Red 2013 – Old Vines

This is the result of the perfect combination of Trincadeira and Grand Noir grape varieties, from the old red vineyard planted in the land back in 1901. It has a concentrated ruby colour and a very complex aroma, with soft balsamic and notes of woods, with black fruit, rock-rose, earth and a vibrant vegetable. When subject to tasting this is concentrated and deep wine, highly structured, with present and extremely elegant tannins. The fruit, minerality and balanced acidity provide a very long and persistent finish, full of character.

The atypical year 2013 was characterised by high rainfall during winter and spring, which allowed part of the water reserves to be restored to the soil, but also by the heat waves that conditioned the vegetative cycle of the grapevines, reflected in slow maturations, but of high quality potential. Robust and highly concentrated wines were obtained, with high longevity potential. The heavy rainfall registered in September in the central region had no impact on the vines’ phytosanitary state, being possible a harvest with a healthy grape.
