Tapada Do Chaves, DOC Alentejo – Portalegre, Red Reserve 2014

Resulting from the selection of the Aragonez, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet grape varieties, from several vineyards – the Malhadas Vineyard, Moutas Vineyard and Old Vineyard (1901) – planted at an altitude of between 350 and 400 meters. Deep garnet in colour, with an intense and full aroma, dominated by forest fruit and black fruit, with light smoky hints. Well-structured on the palate, with strong tannins, full-bodied and firm acidity. Its intense fruitiness appears alongside spicy and smooth balsamic sensations. Extremely complex, fruity and very elegant persistent finish.

The year 2014 had a spring with little rainfall and a hot summer with high temperature amplitudes between day and night. The grapes fully ripened in a balanced manner at the end of September, and were harvested before the first autumn rains – which proved extremely heavy and harmful in some inland regions. As such, a generous crop was collected for both red and white wines, with the concentration and freshness in the red wines of that year particularly noteworthy.
