Tapada Do Chaves, DOC Alentejo – Portalegre, White 2018

Produced from the Arinto, Assario, Fernão Pires, Tamarez and Roupeiro grape varieties, grown on the age-old plots of the vineyard (Old Vines 1903) and also from the “Castanheiro” vineyard, planted in 2007 at around 400 m of altitude. This wine has a citrus colour tinged with golden hues, an intense and complex aroma, with fresh fruit dominating and light hints of orange blossom. Elegant, complex and balanced on the palate, the wine has a full-bodied, fresh and mineral taste, with a rich, elegant and persistent finish.

In 2017 the spring and summer were very dry in the Alentejo, with no rainfall and a low amount of dampness in the soil. The year recorded very high temperatures for long periods of time. These climatic conditions led to short plant cycles, weak vegetative vigour and early maturing. The grape harvest began on 18 August. The year favoured the higher and cooler altitude regions, where the balance between the production and the vegetative output led to the production of balanced white wines with that were buoyantly aromatic.
